You may not know this, but the apple cider vinegar you mix in your salad or the coconut oil you use for deep frying are also effective treatments and remedies for many hair and skin care problems. For example, prepare a solution of 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% water and rub some of it on a dry and flaky scalp. It's also a good treatment for dandruff. Other possible uses for apple cider vinegar and coconut oil are described below.

Hair Conditioner

Combine 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Separate the whites from 3 eggs and mix the clear albumen with the oil-and-vinegar concoction. Rub this mixture into your hair from its roots to the ends. Cover your hair with a shower cap for 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Pour a bit of coconut oil into your palm and rub it into itchy scalp. The oil moisturizes the dryness in the scalp as well as stimulates hair growth. For deep conditioning of the hair and scalp, rub a thick coat of coconut oil on the skin and hair follicles. Leave it on for several hours under a shower cap. It will rehydrate dry strands and damaged hair.

Hair Styling

Rub a bit of coconut oil between your palms to heat it. Then, apply on frizzy hair to help straighten the wayward strands. Alternatively, coat your fingers with oil and run it through your natural ringlets to untangle them.

Facial Toner

Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water. Soak a cotton ball in the concoction and apply daily on skin. It will deeply clean the pores and tighten them.

Face and Body Moisturizer

Coconut oil is rich in Vitamin E, which naturally moisturizes one's dry flaky skin. Apply a coat of this oil on one's face and body after bath to lock in moisture all day.

Body Scrub and Elbow Softener

Create an exfoliating body scrub with equal parts of sugar and coconut oil. Apart from exfoliation, it also provides moisture for the skin. Rub on elbows and leave on for five minutes before using a loofah or body brush to exfoliate the skin.

A Relaxing Soak in the Bath

Pour a cup of apple cider vinegar into your heated bathwater before coming in for a soak in the tub. It will make your skin feel soft and smooth to the touch.

To Soothe Skin and Lips

Soak a little of apple cider vinegar in a cotton ball and gently dab on a mosquito bite or sunburn. You may also use white vinegar as substitute. It will relieve the swelling. For fungal diseases, such as psoriasis or eczema, apply coconut oil on the area to relieve itchiness. The oil is also good for preventing chapped lips.

Relief for Cold Sores, Bruises, and Shaving Burns

Dabbing a small amount of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar on cold sores will help them heal faster. Apply this treatment three times a day. It also reduces swelling and eases the pain.

Treat bruises by soaking a piece of cotton gauze in white or apple cider vinegar. Don't wash it off immediately. Leave it on the injured area for around sixty minutes.

Before shaving, apply a coat of coconut oil on the target area to soften the hair roots and moisturize the skin. It also works as a natural lubricant for body and skin care needs.

Skin Care Benefits of Using Sulfur Soap

A sample of sulfur (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Despite its acrid smell, a bar of sulfur soap brings many health benefits to your skin through its antiseptic, anti-fungal and antibacterial qualities. In olden times, individuals had to take a dip in sulfur-rich hot springs located at a distance from an active volcano. Spas often appeared around these areas to provide patrons privacy and comfort while they visited the pools of heated water and sulfur. Many people frequented these places because the hot water therapy soothed their aching muscles and the sulfur healed their skin problems, such as acne vulgaris, whiteheads, blackheads, eczema, rosacea, scabies, and seborrheic dermatitis. Now, sulfur's cleansing properties are packaged neatly in soap bars. The ten percent sulfur content in the soap has enough potency to effectively produce the same effective results as dipping your whole body in a pool of sulfur-rich hot water. Like in the ancient times, use sulfur soaps to reme

How Do You Treat Scalp Acne and Scalp Dermatitis?

A case of Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on the back of the head (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) If you suffer from pimples on the scalp, then it's important to find a good scalp acne treatment. They're ugly, painful, and irritating. We can't see them ourselves so we pick them often by scratching our scalp before knowing they're there. Scalp wounds tend to bleed and this can make the spots visible, especially if your hair is thinning, fine or very short. Most acne on the scalp has the same cause as acne on the face, that is, overproduction of sebum leading to blockages of hair follicles, which often become infected. Inflammation can be caused by a condition called seborrheic dermatitis , and this, together with oily skin, is what you have to go along with scalp acne. What happens is the scalp will be red and itchy and the skin will flake off as dandruff. Associated with the condition of seborrheic dermatitis and more serious cases is yeast and it's someti

A brief vacation

I have just got back from UP Diliman for a week of respite. I had training for trainers at UP SoLaIR (School of Labor and Industrial Relations). It was a working vacation. At least I had time to slow down and not think of work for a few days. It was good! Really felt good to be taken cared of by the University Hotel staff.
