Avoid Harmful Side Effects in Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

Each morning I wake up I always check my face on my bathroom mirror. Zits? Zero. Pores? They're fine. Wrinkles? Oooops! Let's check those again.

Wrinkles are a cause of great concern among women especially for those in their 30s. Fine lines around the mouth and eyes may be visible without make-up. They become deeper and more defined as we age.

Many anti-aging skin care products are available on the market and each one claims instantaneous results. According to the FDA, the effectiveness of anti-wrinkle creams depends in part on the active ingredient or ingredients of the product. Among the primary ingredients included are peptides, specifically Argireline and Matrixyl.

Argireline, which has the chemical name of Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (AH3), is one of the most often used active ingredients as an alternative to botox. It is sometimes referred to as "topical botox". By inhibiting the release of neurotransmitters that initiate and control the intensity of muscular contractions of the face, it relaxes neural endings in wrinkles.

In a clinical study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, AH3 has been shown to reduce the depth of wrinkles up to 30% after just 30 days of use, and a 17% reduction of wrinkles around the eyes after only 15 days of treatment. The tests also show a 39% improvement in smoothness, 42% improvement of dryness and 45% improvement in overall skin tone. With the right regular use of AH3-based products like Bellaplex and LifeCell wrinkles specifically around high muscular tension areas on the orbital area and on the forehead can be reduced.

The other active ingredient found in anti-aging treatments is Matrixyl which has the chemical name of palmitoyl pentapeptide-3. Clinical studies show that Matrixyl is as effective as retinol in repairing sun-damaged skin and reducing fine lines and wrinkles but does not produce harmful side-effects. Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 may be considered as a non-irritating alternative for people who develop skin irritation in response to retinoids or alpha-hydroxy acids.

These two synthetically-made peptides when combined with copper enhance wound healing. Copper is a naturally-occurring trace element found in every cell. They also stimulate production of collagen and may enhance the action of antioxidants.

When choosing the best anti-wrinkle cream, always remember to check the product’s ingredients on the packaging label before you buy. Better yet, read wrinkle cream reviews with wrinkle cream ratings in them to find the best anti-aging creams and serums for your type of skin.

Skin Care Benefits of Using Sulfur Soap

A sample of sulfur (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Despite its acrid smell, a bar of sulfur soap brings many health benefits to your skin through its antiseptic, anti-fungal and antibacterial qualities. In olden times, individuals had to take a dip in sulfur-rich hot springs located at a distance from an active volcano. Spas often appeared around these areas to provide patrons privacy and comfort while they visited the pools of heated water and sulfur. Many people frequented these places because the hot water therapy soothed their aching muscles and the sulfur healed their skin problems, such as acne vulgaris, whiteheads, blackheads, eczema, rosacea, scabies, and seborrheic dermatitis. Now, sulfur's cleansing properties are packaged neatly in soap bars. The ten percent sulfur content in the soap has enough potency to effectively produce the same effective results as dipping your whole body in a pool of sulfur-rich hot water. Like in the ancient times, use sulfur soaps to reme...

How Do You Treat Scalp Acne and Scalp Dermatitis?

A case of Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on the back of the head (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) If you suffer from pimples on the scalp, then it's important to find a good scalp acne treatment. They're ugly, painful, and irritating. We can't see them ourselves so we pick them often by scratching our scalp before knowing they're there. Scalp wounds tend to bleed and this can make the spots visible, especially if your hair is thinning, fine or very short. Most acne on the scalp has the same cause as acne on the face, that is, overproduction of sebum leading to blockages of hair follicles, which often become infected. Inflammation can be caused by a condition called seborrheic dermatitis , and this, together with oily skin, is what you have to go along with scalp acne. What happens is the scalp will be red and itchy and the skin will flake off as dandruff. Associated with the condition of seborrheic dermatitis and more serious cases is yeast and it's someti...

A brief vacation

I have just got back from UP Diliman for a week of respite. I had training for trainers at UP SoLaIR (School of Labor and Industrial Relations). It was a working vacation. At least I had time to slow down and not think of work for a few days. It was good! Really felt good to be taken cared of by the University Hotel staff.
