More Filipinos are using ATMs to pay

POS systems have come a long way from the traditional cash registers. More than electronic cash registers, POS systems conveniently processes purchases without need of cash. Using a debit or ATM card, or a credit card, a customer can pay directly from his or her bank account.

These POS systems also make it convenient for merchants to input their sales into their accounting systems. Through touch screens, wireless PDAs, or scanners, the merchant do not need to key in the item codes and their prices.

In the Philippines, an increasing number of customers choose to use their ATM cards as debit cards rather than use major credit cards. They are gradually learning that debit payments are less difficult to manage because of less charges incurred.
