Using Web Directories

For many years, web directories have been used and abused by link builders in the name of SEO. Some web directories have a respectable reputation and valuable listings, but others have turned into moneymaking machines that do not give much attention to what kind of links they are placing in their lists.

However, the usefulness of web directories as sources for information still holds true. Unlike search engines that use crawlers, web directories are human edited, and therefore, have a more relevant and accurate listing than any automated product.

Not only that, web directory owners can also earn from their site through ad placements, instead of paid links. Since paid links are frowned upon by Google, this option is way much better, and perhaps more effective in getting traffic since the ads are more attractive and informative than just text links.
